A reading from the gospel of Saint Matthew

All:

Glory to you, O Lord.

We make the sign of the Cross on our forehead, lips and heart so that we may
think like Jesus, speak like Jesus and love like Jesus.

The gospel may be dramatised.

Children may work with a partner.

Reader:

One day Jesus spoke to the people about his special friends.

Child 1:

I was hungry (hold up empty plate) and you gave me food.

Partner puts bread on plate.

Child 2:

I was thirsty (hold up empty plastic tumbler) and you gave me a drink.

Partner pours water into tumbler.

Child 3:

I  was a stranger (mimes knock on door) and you made me welcome.

Partner opens door and gives a hug.

Child 4:

I was sick (fall down and rub knee) and you visited me.

“You are my special friends because whatever you did to one of these,
my little ones, you did to me.”

This is the gospel of the Lord.

All:

Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

Leader:

In that reading Jesus tells us that when we share love and friendship with children who
are poor and in need, we share love and friendship with him.

Now let us remember all the children of the world,
especially the poor who need our friendship.

Child:

We can share love and friendship when we share.

Hold up Mission Together box

Child:

We can share love and friendship when we pray.

Light Mission Together candle.

Child:

We pray for the children of : Asia. North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Australia and the Pacific Islands.

Print the name of each continent on a heart shape and place around globe or
on wall display as each name is called out.

After the name of each continent is called out the children respond.

All:

 Help us to be friends.
