WALK IN THE LIGHT

DISPLAY: Paschal candle, menorah (Jewish seven branch candelabra) or seven individual candlesticks, bible, globe.

GATHERING: Seven children process each carrying a lighted candle.

SONG: Lighting the Way, Here I Am Rejoice 1 no. 20

Place candles on menorah.

LEADER: Today we meet to pray for children of the world.

IN THE DARK

Lights are dimmed.

LEADER: We remember that many children walk bravely in darkness. Some children live with…..

CHILD 1: FEAR

CHRIST THE LIGHT

LEADER: Jesus is the Light of the World..

Light the Easter candle and turn the lights up.
Open Bible at John 7:12

This Gospel may be simply dramatised by taking the form of a Gospel procession. One child leads representing Jesus and carrying the Bible. Six others follow carrying key words from the Gospel passage which they hold up at appropriate times during the reading.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

LEADER: Jesus says, ‘I am the LIGHT of the WORLD. If anyone FOLLOWS me they will not WALK in darkness. They will have the LIGHT of LIFE.’

LEADER: This is the Gospel of the Lord.

ALL: Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYERS

RESPONSE: Christ be our light.

LEADER: Jesus comes to show us the Way from darkness into Light. We pray for children living in darkness.
Relight candles on menorah, one at a time, taking a light from the Easter candle.

CHILD 1: Where there is fear may we bring JOY.
Light candle.

CHILD 2: Where there is poverty may we bring HOPE.
Light candle.

CHILD 3: Where there is sickness may we bring COMFORT.
Light candle.

CHILD 4: Where there is bullying may we bring LOVE.
Light candle.

CHILD 5: Where there is loneliness may we bring FRIENDSHIP.
Light candle.

CHILD 6: Where there is hunger may we SHARE food.
Light candle.

CHILD 7: Where there is fighting may we be signs of PEACE and forgiveness.
Light candle.

LEADER: Let us share a sign of peace with each other and as a sign of friendship with children everywhere.

LEADER: Let us each receive our own prayer candle.
Children come forward one at a time, or a representative from each class or school, to receive a candle.

LEADER: Let us go out and take the light of Christ round the world by living up to our Mission Together motto
