An African Folk Story

Once upon a time there were two brothers who lived in the Ashanti region of Ghana. They were hunters. One day they went to the countryside to hunt. They saw a spider. They sat down and studied how the spider used its eight legs to weave the web. They saw the beautiful pattern the spider created from the threads.
The cloth on the right is called Fathia Fata Nkrumah.
It tells the
story of the
marriage of Or Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana, to his wife Fothia. It ns 'two heads ore better than one'. People who wear this
p.a. are telling people that they are friends
The brothers went home and made a loom for weaving cloth. Strong threads were stretched across a frame and other threads were woven in and out. The threads were different colours. The brothers' cloth is called Kente cloth and is still made in Ghana today. The cloths have different designs. Each Kente cloth has its own name and meaning. The patterns on Kente cloth always tell a story, often about people.
