Carlos

This challenge can be used with the Here I am topics HOMES AND FAMILIES and SIGNS AND SYMBOLS.

Carlos and his family live on the banks of a large river. Big corporations cut the precious trees in the area.

Gold is soon to be mined using poison. No one asks Carlos and his people what they think even though the environment and its resources are God’s precious gift.

The Catholic Bishop, Eugenio, is personally involved in the process of developing education through the involvement of Mission Together in the area. He commissioned Mr Basilio to become a ‘river teacher’ and set up more primary schools.

CHALLENGE: More schools are needed so that children can learn how to read and write, and also how to appreciate and look after God’s gifts. The children are also encouraged to

grow in faith so as to become responsible young people empowered to look after each other and the environment. Their faith gives them the reason to care.

Can you pray for Carlos and share with him? Can you help Bishop Eugenio to build another school?

Mission Together invites children to care for each other through prayer and sharing, and  also to look after God’s creation together.

Mission Together supports Mr Basilio in his efforts to educate boys and girls on the banks of the river Cayapas in the province of Esmeraldas

Mission Together invites you to show SIGNS OF LIFE by taking up THE RIVER CHALLENGE

Juana

This challenge can be used with the Here I am topic SELF-GIVING.

Quito is the capital of Ecuador and is 2,800 metres above sea level. Many families in Quito are too poor to feed their children properly.

Mission priests and sisters have left their homes and families so that they can share God’s love.

Fr Timothy and the sisters have set up feeding

centres to provide basic food, education and care.

As missionaries they concerned for the welfare of the ‘whole person’, all people, looking after the young, like Juana, while their parents work.

This enables the family become more self-reliant and the children more secure.

CHALLENGE: Fr Timothy receives support for project from Mission Together. He needs the help he can get!

CAN YOU HELP?

Pray for Juana and share your loving care with the undernourished.

Mission Together believes that by looking after the whole child, both physically and spiritually, the Good News is offered in a loving and wholesome way.

This feeding centre in Quito is run by the SVD fathers. Children from poor families are brought daily into feeding centres supported by Mission Together all around the capital.

Juana is one of them
